10×10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale

Maine artists are invited to submit original artwork to Brunswick’s 10×10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale.

Application due June 1. Artwork due August 24. Event is September 27.

Venues are Curtis Memorial Library and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Benefits Arts Are Elementary, a local nonprofit providing artist residencies to all Brunswick students in grades K-5.

INVITING ARTISTS FOR THE MOORE PARK SHOW

The Moore Park Art Show in South Paris is seeking exhibitors for a celebration and sale of original arts, Saturday July 27, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain date July 28). The 4^th annual show will feature 60 artists and artisans with a new craft table tent with live entertainment and fine fare. Over $600 in ribbons will be awarded to several artists representing painting, photography and crafts in an optional judged competition. The event is presented by the Town of Paris, Parks and Recreation Department and the Mahoosuc Arts Council.

Artists are being sought whose work includes paintings, drawings, photography, wood, metal and glass sculpture; fine jewelry; handmade prints; fiber and textile/fiber arts and more. All art work must be the original design and creation of the exhibitor. Booths are limited. Artists also have the opportunity to submit work for awards judging. There will also be a limited number of craft booths under a tent for more traditional crafts.

Single 10 x 10-foot booths are $60 for a single exhibitor, $35 a piece for a shared booth up to four exhibitors, and $75 for booths shared by groups of five or more. Craft tables are $30. Applications must be received by July 1 for inclusion in the Moore Park Art Program. Food vendors spots are $75. Food vendors must provide proof of insurance with application.

Call to Artists

May 3-31: Dreams, Reverie and Reflection - Art describing dreams, fantasy or deeply reflective moods, through any genre: abstract art, imaginative sculpture, contemplative scenic scenes, etc. All media and approaches are welcome, including abstract work, photography and sculpture.

Juror for “Dreams, Reverie and Reflection is John Sideli.

Submissions entered for the River Arts exhibition must be for sale. Wall-hung work should not exceed 40 inches in height, and for safety reasons plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. Each work should be labeled on the back with artist’s name and the title.

Drop-off dates at River Arts’ new premises on Route 1 are Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early submissions are accepted within usual gallery hours. The entry fee for submissions of up to three works is $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Artists are notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision. Submissions may not have been exhibited at River Arts previously. Entry forms are available online at http://riverartsme.org and at the gallery when submitting.

The opening reception will be on Friday, May 3, from 5 -7 p.m. Queries and requests may be directed to River Arts at 563-1507 or by email at info@riverartsme.org. River Arts offers year-round art exhibitions, in addition to classes, concerts and other cultural events. River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4, and Sundays from 10-2. It is closed on Mondays.

What: CALL FOR POETS AND MUSICIANS
for Purr and Caw: talking about species

When: June 12th, 7pm
Where: Frontier Café, 14 Maine Street, Brunswick

Spindleworks will host Purr and Caw: talking about Species, an evening to celebrate the natural world through spoken words and music.

The backdrop to the event will be Heads or Tails, the open call exhibit, opening on May 10th, right after the All Species Parade.

Community members are invited to be part of Purr and Caw by reading or singing work in the theme of natural species. While not a juried event, those interested should contact Liz McGhee at Spindleworks 725-8820 or emcghee@iaofmaine.org.

Please include a copy of up to three works you wish to share. There will be no walk in entries. To be added to the line up, please respond before June 5th.

Oil painting classes at Centre St Arts Gallery

The Centre St Arts Gallery, LLC is offering Oil Painting, taught by Bath artist and muralist Roz Martin beginning Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm for 8 Tuesdays, at 11 Centre Street in Bath. The fee for the class is $200 for eight sessions, payable in advance. A materials list will be issued upon payment of course fee.

This course is designed to instruct beginner and intermediate artists in the basic principles of oil painting. The artist will learn to handle this medium with confidence. At the end of the course, each student will complete at least one painting. Lesson topics will include: materials, supplies, and equipment; perspective; composition; value and color; and brush skills.

Roz Martin, local Bath painter, who grew up in New York City, has spent much of her life in North Carolina, where she became strongly interested in our nation’s lighthouses, evident in her seascapes. Since moving to Maine, Martin’s work has appeared in Banners Over Bath, outdoor art exhibits and Bath’s Third Friday Artwalks.

Also since arriving in Bath, Martin has developed a more modern design vision through the creation of murals for interior design. Martin now primarily paints murals and has been successful at it. She has also combined her painting talent with teaching as she instructs painting courses at RSU1 Adult Education Center. Roz has also written on-line articles for Fine Art Magazine in New York.

Registration for the 2013 Bowdoin College Summer Art Camp is now open! Please join us for this fun, creative, and popular program!

Attached you will find a brochure and registration materials in a pdf format. If you would like to enroll your child/children for Art Camp, please complete all registration forms and include a non-refundable $65 deposit, per child, per class. All materials must be received by June 21st, however, space is limited.

If you have problems downloading the documents, please let me know and I will be happy to mail a paper copy.

We look forward to your child joining us at Art Camp this summer.

Call for Art: Heads or Tails

What: Call for Art: Heads or Tails

Spindleworks and Frontier Café will host an open call exhibit to coincide with the All Species Parade, set for May 10, 2013 in Brunswick Maine. As with the parade, the exhibit Heads or Tails is meant to draw attention to our living planet both to celebrate, and to raise awareness of the diversity of species, all of which are affected by our actions and inactions. Artists are invited to submit work in any medium, allowing the diversity of artistic expression to reflect the diversity of species. This will be the third exhibit in the series, which has drawn artists from across Maine and across the country. Once again Spindleworks has chosen the Coastal Humane Society as the beneficiary of the exhibit. 20% from each sale will be donated to this important and well loved local organization.

Haystack Announces 2013 Opportunities

2013 OPEN STUDIO RESIDENCY

Haystack’s new Open Studio Residency will be held May 26-June 7, 2013. The program is designed to foster artistic exploration at the highest level, and those selected will attend for free.

Residents will include established and emerging artists working in a range of visual art and craft media. In addition, Haystack will invite a smaller group of scientists, designers, and writers. Competitive application process, open to those who are 18 years of age or older. Criteria includes quality of work, the appropriateness of planned projects for Haystack’s studios, and ability to work in an intensive community.

2013 SUMMER WORKSHOPS

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE

Haystack offers full Technical Assistant and Work Study Scholarships for our summer workshops. There are three scholarship categories; technical assistant, work study, and minority. We award up to 100 scholarships annually, which are available through competitive application to those who are 18 years of age or older. Applicants may seek scholarship support in more than one category.
