Summer Island Studio Hosts Letty Husson for June 2013

Work by Letty Husson will be on display at Summer Island Studio- Gallery of Fine Artisans, located in the Tonine Mall in Brunswick, in time for the 2nd Friday ArtWalk scheduled for June 14th .
Growing up in the Philippines, China and Hong Kong, Letty did not have a lot of contact with the arts. She became a nurse and a midwife in the UK and immigrated to the US in 1968, working as a surgical nurse in Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
On a whim, she enrolled and graduated from Mary Mount Manhattan College in 1986 with a BA in Studio Art. However, working in the hospital and family responsibility intervened.
When she retired, she and her husband moved to Maine and settled in Georgetown. The beautiful landscapes in Maine inspired her to re immerse herself in art.
She started with watercolor, and proceeded to pastel and oil. Letty paints mainly from photographs she has taken, but when the weather is pleasant she would occasionally paint en plein air.
Letty has shown her work in several juried and non-juried shows around midcoast Maine. She is represented by the Centre St. Arts Gallery in Bath. During the summer her work can also be seen at the Sebascodegan Artists Gallery in Harpswell and the Old Post Office Gallery in Georgetown.

Birds of a Feather at the Chocolate Church
Points of View Artists open their season with Sheer Madness

All 15 members of Points of View Artists are represented in the season-opening exhibit, Sheer Madness.
This group show aims to capture the wild, whimsical and sometimes wacky world of art. Many of the pieces will be primarily nonobjective works that make no direct reference to anything in the visible, exterior or physical world and speak metaphorically and poetically.
Or, they may just be kind of crazy, fun pieces. Having been trapped inside the studio through Winter’s cold and snow, art is bursting forth in all its glory and leading the way into Spring.

Nether World- Judith Long
Sheer Madness will be on exhibit from May 6 to May 31. Come join us for the opening reception and celebrate the start of our 2013 season.

Mad Harbor- Tim Banks
Opening reception: Friday, May 10, 5 to 8 pm

Jennifer Litchfield’s Maine Landscapes at Summer Island Studio during the month of May
Jennifer Litchfield has been living and painting in coastal Maine for the past 16 years. Originally from Australia, where she pursued a medical career in Sydney for 20 years, Litchfield moved to the United States in 1994 after meeting and marrying her American husband.
Art has always been one of her great loves and she took the opportunity of her new life to develop her passion for painting, drawing and color. Over the past 16 years Litchfield has studied painting with a number of fine teachers.
What excites her now is working in either oils, acrylics or pastels exploring abstract and semi abstract design based on and inspired by aspects of landscape, as well as painting more realistically. She likes to go back and forth between the different mediums and find that each one informs the other.
For many summers she and her husband have cruised the Maine coast. So much of the inspiration for her paintings comes from those wonderful journeys, wandering through the islands, observing the ever-changing light, patterns on water, rocks and the beauty of the shorelines.
