The Chocolate Church Art Gallery, located at 804 Washington Street in Bath, announces the opening reception for the MADE IN CLAY exhibit on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 5-8 pm.
Sculptors from Judson Studio will display their work from September 19-November 10, 2015. Cathy Bloom, Fran Charles, Betsy Fear, Carolyn Judson, Nan Moran and Joanna Pool will be at the reception to greet guests and answer questions.
The opening is reception is free and open to the public as part of the 3rd Friday Bath ArtWalk.

The third Bath ArtWalk of the season will be held on Friday August 15th, from 5-8pm, with over 30 artists at open studios, galleries, and group shows presenting paintings, photographs, and works in ceramics, glass, wood, and other materials to express each artist’s vision.
The featured artist this month at Sharon Drake Real Estate on Front Street will be ArtVan students, with refreshments catered by Mae’s Cafe.
Music on the sidewalk in August, 5-7 p.m. will be provided by Heather Hardy (with Nancy Sferra). Winner of the 2013 Maine Songwriting Competition and 2nd place winner of the 2012 New England Songwriting Contest. Heather is co-host of the Round Top Coffee House in Damariscotta, and teaches songwriting, guitar and ukelele for all ages. FMI call 442-7291, or www.visitbath.com.
3rd Friday Bath ArtWalk & Tour, Downtown and Around Town
Bath’s 3rd Friday ArtWalk takes place monthly from June – October, with the next date on July 18, from 5-8pm. See the work of over 30 artists in open studios and downtown galleries. There will be refreshments in various venues including a monthly ArtWalk Wine Tasting at Now You’re Cooking, plus sidewalk musicians and a Chocolate Church performance immediately following.
In coordination with the July ArtWalk, artists will be holding an open studio weekend, July 19 & 20, offering a range of demonstrations and interactive events.

Sylvia Bangs lives in Portland, Maine. She was born and raised in Gray, Maine. She moved to Portland in 1959 and attended the School of Fine and Applied Arts, (now Maine College of Art) for 4 yrs.
Her work has been widely exhibited in Galleries and Art shows throughout Maine and Massachusetts and has been written up in many state and local newspapers, including Maine Sunday Telegram.
Sylvia says “I started drawing exclusively in black and white pen and ink, using extremely fine point, Rapidograph Pens. Now all my original drawings are 18″ x 24″ and reflect a deep feeling of certain animals of New England and the world.
I am constantly seeking new textures and forms to incorporate into my surrealistic drawings, filling the whole with subconscious forms.”

The first Bath ArtWalk of the season will be held on Friday June 20th, from 5-8pm, with over 30 artists at open studios, galleries, and group shows presenting paintings, photographs, and works in ceramics, glass, wood, and other materials to express each artist’s vision.
Explore the street level galleries and upper level studios in Bath’s award-winning, historic downtown district. Most of the artists’ studios are clustered around Front and Centre Streets, allowing visits to multiple locations, including a group exhibit at Bath City Hall and art displayed at the Kennebec Company showroom in the Customs House.
A handful of artists are located outside the downtown where they will welcome guests in their open studios.
All venues and a description of the participating artists can be found on the 3rd Friday Bath ArtWalk map/brochure, available at downtown Bath businesses and at visitbath.com. Venues will be marked on location with festive blue or green bowhead flags and yard signs.
The featured artist this month at Sharon Drake Real Estate on Front Street will be Felicity Sidwell, with refreshments catered by Mae’s Cafe.
Bath ArtWalk also features musicians and other sidewalk performers at the corner of Front and Centre Streets, and a 3rd Friday concert at the Chocolate Church Arts Centre following ArtWalk each month.

Liam Swift – a 12 year-old singer/songwriter from Portland, Maine who blew Bath ArtWalk attendees away last year with his beautiful voice and catchy piano. This past summer Liam won three singing competitions in Maine and New Hampshire. Liam also co-hosts a monthly Kids & Teens Open Mic at One Longfellow Square in Portland where he emcees the show and performs. He is currently working on a CD of his original music.

Hollow Body Eclectic – this four-piece band came together in March 2013 to perform a series of CD release parties for songwriter Peter Alexander’s solo album, Promised Land (released in October 2012). The band has quickly expanded its repertoire with original compositions by both Peter and Johannah Harkness, who plays keyboards. With Sheldon Bird on bass, Tom Masucci on drums, and all four members on vocals, the Bath-based band has gained a reputation for creativity, musicianship, and fun, high-energy concert performances.
3rd Friday Bath ArtWalks will be held monthly, June through October 2014. An extended Open Studio Weekend will be offered all day at selected locations July 19 & 20.

(Bath, Maine) The Chocolate Church Arts Center (CCAC) uniquely offers an art gallery and a performance arts venue. To kick off Bath’s ArtWalk on June 20, the CCAC 3rd Friday Concert Series continues with original rock music by Hollow Body Eclectic with opening act Liam Swift. In addition, there will be a reception for “The View Beyond” art exhibit featuring interpretations of big Maine skies, clouds, water and the horizon.
“Since September, we have been building momentum with concerts to coincide with our art gallery openings,” said Jennifer DeChant, executive director, Chocolate Church Arts Center. “Bath’s 3rd Friday ArtWalk spotlights our local creative economy and we pleased to offer a venue where people can appreciate visual arts and enjoy a lively music performance.”
“The View Beyond” exhibit features pastel, oil, acrylic and encaustic works by Maine artists David Costello, Elizabeth Newman, kdb, Rebecca Kuprowicz and Sara Cox. The reception is open to the public from 5-7pm.
Doors open at 7pm for the 3rd Friday Concert by world class Hollow Body Eclectic, comprised of Peter Alexander on guitars, Johannah Harkness on keyboards, Sheldon Bird on bass, and Tom Masucci on drums and percussion. The opening act for this concert, Liam Swift, is an amazing up-and-coming songwriter and performer who, at age 13, has already amassed awards and accolades. The Chocolate Church is located at 804 Washington Street, in the heart of Bath, and their “Annex Gallery” is one of the featured stops for the Art Walk.
The 3rd Friday Concert Series feature the area’s best folk, rock, and bluegrass musicians. Upcoming shows include Cilantro with Earl Bigelow on July 18 and The Cups with Matt Ferrel on August 15. Chocolate Church also produces Summer Saturdays of Music on the Bath Waterfront, with free concerts at 6:00pm every Saturday afternoon from July 12 through August 30. Maine artists are invited to show their work in historic Bath during this year’s 3rd Friday Art Walk;
The first of five Art Walks is June 20; the last is October 17; hours are 5PM to 8PM.
An open studio tour is scheduled on the July 19 & 20; hours vary according to studio.
Indoor group venues are open in Bath City Hall auditorium & the Bath Customs House lobby.
Artists may display outside on the wider sidewalks and the Customs House lawn when Maine summer weather beckons.
The fee is $60 for the season, whether exhibiting once or all 6 events.
All artwork must be original or reproductions by the original artist.
Paid entries received before April 1 will be listed in the 2014 brochure which will be distributed from Bar Harbor to Boston.

A reception for artist Stuart Ross will be held at Centre St Arts Gallery, LLC, at 11 Centre St. on Friday, August 16 from 5 to 8 pm, during Bath’s Third Friday Art Walk. This event is free and welcomes all visitors.
Stuart Ross presents a collection of recent acrylic paintings as guest artist at Centre St Arts Gallery through September 16.
The main gallery is now showing work by 19 member artists in an exhibition called Coast of Maine, through August 24, 2013.

Historic downtown Bath invites you to enjoy a backstage pass to the arts! Go behind the scenes and meet area artists during Bath’s 3rd Friday ArtWalk & Tour, featuring the work of over 30 artists at open studios and gallery shows. Come for the art, the food, and music on the street and in Bath pubs and restaurants during this month’s ArtWalk on Friday, July 19th.
This month 25 area artists will also participate in an extended Open Studio Weekend, from 10am-4pm, July 20 and 21. Weekend highlights include an “Art for Charity” raffle at the studio of Roxanne Miller and Beverly St. Clair, 15 Centre Street, Suite 5; interactive demonstrations where you can create your own free art glass pendant at Coastal Art Glass, 233 Water Street, or dip a brush at Linda Murray’s Art by the River Studio, 1 Curtis Street; a sale/seconds tent at Arrowsic Island Pottery on Old Stage Road in Arrowsic; and artists at work at Centre St Art Gallery and many other locations throughout the city.
Brochures with participating artists and exhibit locations are available in advance at the Bath Visitor Information Center, 15 Commercial Street, and during the 3rd Friday ArtWalk evenings at group venues in Bath City Hall and Nancy Carlton Real Estate, 99 Commercial Street.
