An Artists’ Reception for guest artist Sylvia Bangs, and Centre St Arts Gallery, LLC member artists will be held on Friday, July 18 during the Bath Third Friday Art Walk at 11 Centre Street, Bath, from 5 to 8 pm.

Sylvia Bangs lives in Portland, Maine.  She was born and raised in Gray, Maine.  She moved to Portland in 1959 and attended the School of Fine and Applied Arts, (now Maine College of Art) for 4 yrs.

Her work has been widely exhibited in Galleries and Art shows throughout Maine and Massachusetts and has been written up in many state and local newspapers, including Maine Sunday Telegram.
She has studied with nationally known oil and watercolorist Lawrence Sisson; New York and Maine artist John Muench; and James Elliot of Bath, Maine.

Sylvia says “I started drawing exclusively in black and white pen and ink, using extremely fine point, Rapidograph Pens.  Now all my original drawings are 18″ x 24″ and reflect a deep feeling of certain animals of New England and the world.
Based on innate sense of design, texture, shapes, forms and circles. I convey my message with a strong personal accent, by putting designs of animals + other things in my drawings, pushing my drawings “to the edge” giving my work profound familiarity.

I am constantly seeking new textures and forms to incorporate into my surrealistic drawings, filling the whole with subconscious forms.”
Sylvia Bangs’ work will be on exhibit at the Centre St Arts Gallery, 11 Centre Street, Bath, from June 29 through August 9, 2014.

 bath artwalk 2014

Discover Bath’s lively arts community during the 2014 season’s 3rd Friday ArtWalk & Tour!

The first Bath ArtWalk of the season will be held on Friday June 20th, from 5-8pm, with over 30 artists at open studios, galleries, and group shows presenting paintings, photographs, and works in ceramics, glass, wood, and other materials to express each artist’s vision.

Explore the street level galleries and upper level studios in Bath’s award-winning, historic downtown district. Most of the artists’ studios are clustered around Front and Centre Streets, allowing visits to multiple locations, including a group exhibit at Bath City Hall and art displayed at the Kennebec Company showroom in the Customs House.

A handful of artists are located outside the downtown where they will welcome guests in their open studios.

All venues and a description of the participating artists can be found on the 3rd Friday Bath ArtWalk map/brochure, available at downtown Bath businesses and at Venues will be marked on location with festive blue or green bowhead flags and yard signs.

The featured artist this month at Sharon Drake Real Estate on Front Street will be Felicity Sidwell, with refreshments catered by Mae’s Cafe.

Bath ArtWalk also features musicians and other sidewalk performers at the corner of Front and Centre Streets, and a 3rd Friday concert at the Chocolate Church Arts Centre following ArtWalk each month.

Music on the sidewalk in June, 5-7pm:

Liam Swift – a 12 year-old singer/songwriter from Portland, Maine who blew Bath ArtWalk attendees away last year with his beautiful voice and catchy piano. This past summer Liam won three singing competitions in Maine and New Hampshire. Liam also co-hosts a monthly Kids & Teens Open Mic at One Longfellow Square in Portland where he emcees the show and performs. He is currently working on a CD of his original music.

At the CCAC at 7:30pm:

Hollow Body Eclectic – this four-piece band came together in March 2013 to perform a series of CD release parties for songwriter Peter Alexander’s solo album, Promised Land (released in October 2012). The band has quickly expanded its repertoire with original compositions by both Peter and Johannah Harkness, who plays keyboards. With Sheldon Bird on bass, Tom Masucci on drums, and all four members on vocals, the Bath-based band has gained a reputation for creativity, musicianship, and fun, high-energy concert performances.

3rd Friday Bath ArtWalks will be held monthly, June through October 2014. An extended Open Studio Weekend will be offered all day at selected locations July 19 & 20.
