Florence Sillen 4 Schooner Ridge Rd #8 Bath, ME 04530 email: fsillen@florencesillen.com website: www.florencesillen.com Through the years I have explored both abstraction and realism through brush painting. While living in France I painted realistic portraits. I now work with abstract painted collages, combining spray painted surfaces with cutout forms. They open windows into universes where curious forms move through space. These forms have solidity, density and dimensionality. Like living things they interact and move through landscapes permeated with diffuse lighting.

Charlotte Agell, (207) 729-4546 www.charlotteagell.com I am the author and illustrator of twelve books for children and young adults. My paintings are often watercolors of the sea, or very quick portraits of children. I am in love with India Ink! Originally from Sweden, by way of Canada and Hong Kong, I feel fortunate to have landed in this life on the coast of Maine, where I teach middle school, kayak, x-c ski, and try to make art daily. The classic Bread & Puppet "Cheap Art Manifest0" makes more and more sense to me with every passing year.

David Costello P.O Box 655 Freeport, ME 04032 207 869-5052 costy48@gmail.com www.davidcostello.com I’m drawn to the beauty that surrounds us, and the beauty that is within us. I love the peaceful serenity found while kayaking early in the morning, but I am primarily a studio artist. While some of my inspiration comes from the world around us, the majority comes from within. My focus is the longing of the human heart and my passion is to give voice to what cannot be said in words - to reveal what cannot be seen with the eye, but with the heart. Much of my work is birthed through dreams and visions. I work primarily in soft pastel.

I often use the double image because I am interested in the "dialogue" that this creates between the different areas of the work. Small natural forms, twigs, ferns, flowers, etc. leave room for experimentation with sumi-like strokes and lines and the layering of glazes throughout the composition. I go to nature and the possibilities inherent in the materials for inspiration. It is an ongoing endeavor.

As both a studio and plein air painter, I use a limited palette with brush and painting knife, working to achieve rich pure colors and textures in my work. I create pathways with shadow and light to draw viewers into my paintings. The influence of the light outdoors on colors and the landscape is what draws me to a particular scene.

Alan Mast Studio 228B Fort Andross 14 Maine Street Brunswick, Maine 04011 207-798-3938 maststudio@gwi.net alanmast.com Work in mixed media, collage, acrylic, oil, graphite, printmaking I like the rich diet offered by various mediums, occasionally layering them for evocative imagery. It's all part of the great fun and hard discipline of art making. But I also enjoy “descriptive” work, focusing minutely on objects seen as structured images visible in light, and the often amazing beauty available to us when we look with love at the world around us. The basic language of art is indifferent to distinctions between “abstract” and “realistic.” As Picasso put it, “anything you can imagine is real.”
